  3. Hannah S. says:

    Robert,

I just wanted to say that you are doing an amazing thing. Your work is powerful and incredibly important. I admire you so much and am grateful that you are doing this. As a once suicidal teenager, now creative nonfiction MFA applicant – I can’t tell you enough how much this would have helped me and how much I know you are helping. I did cry when I read the brevity article and then clicked the link to your site, actually tears are still streaming down my face now as I write this. You are making the world a better place and I can’t express enough how happy I am to know that this is happening. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Hannah

I can’t tell you how much this means to me. I cried reading this. Thank you for reaching out and telling me. It made my week. I will always cherish this post!
So good to know that you are doing great! Keep it up!

    Robert

  7. Brittany says:

Hey Robert, I doubt you will remember me. I was an adolescent in your class back in 2008. I have done a lot of growing since then. I have a 3 year old little girl and happily married. The other night i was going through my closet and I came across my old DGW journal and some of the stories that were published while I was there. I just wanted to let you know that being in your class put an ENORMOUS impact on my life. I discovered so many things about myself. There is no way i could possibly tell you how much I enjoyed your class! People have role models and someone they look up to, and I have never been that type of person but when i left DGW I was a different person, and you are the person I look up too. You are my role model, because you helped me find that girl inside of myself that wanted to live and over come her fears!!! I think what you do for all of your students is amazing, and although we dont show it on the outside all the time, you help us bring out that better person!!! Thank you so much for everything you have done. Love always and you will always be my role model!!!

    Brittany

What’s happenin Rob. I told you I be checkin in. Pray hard bro. Stuff starting to hit the fan and I’m getting pushed back to square one. I’m really tryin to stay cool, but between my mom and my girl it ain’t easy. I think of how my actions will affect them, but i’m not getting the same respect ya know. I mean i got enough on my plate already without having to stomach their bull. I’m really trying to keep this thing together, but it’s gettin harder every minute. I need some kinda relief.
