Pirates by Andrea

The sails blew through the cold air above me. It was silent and I could finally think to myself. Being the captain of a pirate ship was not all it was cracked up to be. No one knew my past; they would probably have me walk off the plank if they knew I had lied. Lied about my life, my family, my experiences; everything. I was on a mission. In the process, I had gained a new position. The mates that had followed my leadership were on a different mission though. They were my new family and I couldn’t mess that up now. They wanted gold, and I wanted revenge. I was born with leadership qualities, but not born into piracy. My parents had been killed by terrible pirates. I was three when this happened, in my small crib. I can still hear their screams. The way they begged to be alive stormed through my head and I’ve never forgotten it. It will be forgotten after this terrible deed is done. I will destroy the entire race of pirates, but spare the ones who have stuck with me. I will search for my new family’s gold and repay them for their service to me. Until then, I had to act like I knew what I was doing.

I really like this setup, with a character conflicted by his desire for revenge and fondness for his friends. I’d love to see you expand it into a full story.
